The start of the third race of the 2021 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup today at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya had to be delayed due to a technical problem of the pole setter. Following a few minutes waiting on the grid, the field eventually got the go and Lukas Tulovic came off the line well to fight close to the top. Yet, the German encountered some issues with his front tyre and therefore went a bit backwards. He eventually finished in eighth position.

Tech3 E-Racing’s Corentin Perolari struggled likewise with his front, but managed to improve on his 13th position on the grid. The MotoE rookie tried to follow the front group from the first lap and made up a few positions. The Frenchman finally crossed the line in tenth, which is his second-best result to date. Now Perolari aims to do even better for the upcoming round in the Netherlands in less than three weeks’ time.

Lukas Tulovic

Position: 8th

Championship: 10th

Points: 17

“I’m very disappointed about the race. I had an amazing start and was first before the baking to the first corner. For me it was a bad decision by the race direction to make a start like this, because we have been like four minutes without electricity, so the tyre heaters have been a little bit cold and I felt this in the first half lap, so I was a bit careful.”

“Then for the first time this weekend we had some issues with the front and I couldn’t show my strength, which is corner speed and for this reason, it was impossible to do better. I could follow the other riders, always made up time on the brake, but as soon as I put lean angle the front was closing and I couldn’t be close enough to overtake. I don’t know why this happened now in the race, but we have to understand it and improve for the future.”

Corentin Perolari

Position: 10th

Championship: 12th

Points: 13

“As I was starting from P13, it was hard to come closer to the front. Therefore, it would be really important for me next time to qualify better. Overall, it was a pretty difficult race. The front tyre was moving a lot during all six laps and I think I was not the only one, as we saw many crashes in this race. I finally finished in the top 10, which makes me really happy, especially because I gave my all from the start.”

“Two riders in the top 10 is an ok result, although we were honestly expecting more and better. Lukas had a great start, but down to turn one he was a bit shy on the brake I believe and although he was in the front group of eight riders, which was a bit of a Le Mans replica, as we were there, but last of the group. We finished P8. Lukas is a master of Qualifying and understands how to ride this bike very well, when he is on his own, but for some reason he is a bit shy in the battle. Clearly, it’s not easy with these heavy bikes and we see it many times, that when you have a bit of a fight, it ends up in the gravel. But this is part of the game.”

“On the other side, Corentin did his second-best result so far with a P10. Also, he needs still to understand how to ride a MotoE bike, which is very different to what he has been using before, carrying a lot of corner speed is the secret and at the moment he is still learning. At the first round of the championship in Jerez he had two very fast and heavy crashes, so I think that didn’t help his confidence. Anyway, two guys in the top 10, so let’s try again in the next round!”
