The first round of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto didn’t go to plan for the Tech3 E-Racing team today. After he had a great Saturday with P3 in the combined practices and a fantastic second place in the E-Pole, Lukas Tulovic started the eight laps race from the front row of the grid. He took over the lead for a few corners in the beginning and was in fifth at the end of lap one. Unfortunately, the German went down in turn five of the second lap and therefore finished his race early.

At the same time, MotoE newcomer Corentin Perolari used the weekend to gain confidence aboard his Energica Ego Corsa machine and at the same time to the E-Pole format on Saturday. He managed to secure P13 to start his debut race from the fifth row of the grid. While fighting for his first points, the Frenchman unluckily crashed already on the first lap and therefore missed the chance to collect more experience, but will be eager to make up for it in less than two weeks at his home round in Le Mans.

“After a very good Saturday, we have been optimistic for the race today. It was a strange situation with the delay of the race, but I was ready to go. I had an incredible start, I overtook Granado on the outside in turn one, but on the back straight someone else passed me, there was a big fight and I had to slow down a bit, two, three riders came passed me and it was a big mess on the first lap. “On the second lap I was in P5 close to the top group, I was trying to improve, because I lost a bit too much in the exit of the corners, so I was looking to get better on the throttle.”

“But then another rider overtook me on the outside, we were braking next to each other and he completely closed the line in front of me. I had nowhere to go, so we both crashed. It’s very disappointing to end a weekend, that was looking so promising, with zero points in the gravel, especially for the Championship it’s a big disaster. I’m sorry for the team for this! But we will continue on this speed in Le Mans.”

“I am very disappointed about my race debut in the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup today. I was hoping for more, but the fifth row in the E-Pole was finally pretty ok. In the race itself, I had a contact with Zannoni on the first lap, which was very unfortunate and I lost consciousness for a few seconds after the crash. The only thing I can say is sorry to my team, I really hope we can do a lot better in Le Mans.”

“What a sad end of the weekend for Tech3 E-Racing. With Lukas having done a superb Qualifying with the second position and being on the front row, we had great expectations and we though Corentin would take amend after the fast crash he suffered in FP2. But I think Jerez 2021 is just not a lucky place for Tech3.”

“Corentin was touching Zannoni, which is something you have to avoid to do with the E bikes, so we lost him on the first lap. All of our hopes were on Lukas. For some reason, he lost quite a few positions and had a contact with Aldeguer at the breaking and that was the end of story for the weekend for Tech3 E-Racing.”

“It’s a bad feeling, we’ve been working hard; two three days’ tests in Jerez and the race weekend and taking zero points out of it, is not the reward we were expecting. I can’t hide my disappointment and I really hope we will take it as a lesson not to repeat that again during the season.”
