Tech3 E-Racing is pleased to finally be able to present its line up for the 2024 FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship, as another eight-round, 16-race season awaits the most spectacular electric racing series in the world, with MotoE™ set to share the stage at the majority of the European dates on the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship calendar. Alessandro Zaccone will race under Tech3 E-Racing colours for another season as he aims to solidify his results after a first season on the Ducati bike. He will be joined by Italian Nicholas Spinelli, a MotoE™ race winner, who will start his second campaign in the electric class.
DAY 1
Portimao Test could not have started better on Wednesday as it was a 1-2 for Tech3 E-Racing after the first day of action. Nicholas Spinelli, a MotoE™ race winner, was fastest of the day with a best lap in 1’47.632, and he was followed by teammate Alessandro Zaccone who sat in P2 just 0.101 seconds behind after four sessions of fifteen minutes each. Great team work for Tech3 boys.
DAY 2
Another play day on the Portuguese rollercoaster awaited Spinelli and Zaccone on Thursday, with another four sessions. Hector Garzo came back in the game to steal from Spinelli the top of the timesheets, but Tech3’s number 29 still made it to the podium and closed day 2 second fastest with a 1’47.036, improving on his time from Wednesday by 0.596 seconds. Zaccone continued to make progress with his electric Ducati in Portimao, and we saw him topping Practice 3, just before the rain came to disrupt the day. His lap in 1’47.274 saw him end day 2 fourth.
DAY 3
The rain overnight left a tricky track for the MotoE™ class on Friday morning, as a race simulation awaited them. Alessandro Zaccone took P6 at the end of the seven lap, with a best race lap in 2’01.992. Unfortunately, Spinelli crashed on lap 4 after what was a strong start. He was the fastest on lap 3. The day then continued as both riders looked to conclude their testing program. Zaccone topped Practice 2 while Spinelli was third fastest of P3, but with the track conditions not as good as the previous day, times did not go down on Friday. Spinelli’s best lap of day 2 places him second overall of the Portimao Official MotoE™ Test, and Zaccone’s fastest of yesterday sees him finish sixth overall.
Very positive and encouraging test for Tech3 E-Racing, who we will see on track again the Thursday preceding the Portuguese Grand Prix with one last testing day. The FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship will kick off in Portimao on March 22-23, 2024.
Nicholas Spinelli
"We are super happy with this test because we are feeling so much better on the bike than last year, so this is a big thing for us. Unfortunately, today was not great because I was sick all night and I could not give my 100%, but day 1 and 2 were really positive for us. We have another day of testing in Portimao on the Thursday before the Portuguese GP, and then we will be fully ready for the season! Thank you to my team for the work this week!”
Alessandro Zaccone
"I am really happy with these three days of tests. The feeling with the bike was good and we worked well with my new team. I am disappointed with my crash this morning during the race simulation, but overall, we are leaving Portimao happy. The season will start in one month now, and I am looking forward to giving my best in 2024!"
Hervé Poncharal
Team Manager
"Strong start to the season for the Tech3 E-Racing team at the Portimao Test. We have a new line up, as we welcomed to the team Nicholas Spinelli who we carefully followed in 2023, and we were pleased to retain Alessandro Zaccone for another season. The results of this first official test are very encouraging for the Tech3 E-Racing squad. New recruit Nicholas ends the test second fastest rider after twelve tough sessions and a race simulation, and his teammate Alessandro finishes sixth, so having both our riders in the top 6 is very exciting for us.There have also been a few changes within our technical crew, as we have welcomed three new members this year, and I think that we had a great atmosphere in the box. Having two good riders happy to be back on track together with a well qualified staff eager to be part of the 2024 has been the key to a good vibe in the box during this test, and I hope it continues this way when the season starts."
